Why The PlayStation Portal Is Pure Couch & Bedside Gaming Luxury
Anyone who shares a main living room television knows the frustration of wanting to dive into a high-stakes campaign on God of War or Spider-Man 2 right when someone else wants to watch a movie. The Sony PlayStation Portal Remote Player solves that domestic tug-of-war with dedicated elegance.
Rather than forcing you to clamp a phone to a floppy controller, Sony split an official DualSense wireless controller down the middle and mounted a vibrant 8-inch 1080p 60fps LCD display right in the center. You get the exact same haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, and ergonomic grips as your living room console, streaming your entire PS5 library seamlessly over Wi-Fi.
The PlayStation Portal is a dedicated remote player for the PS5 console, combining an 8-inch Full HD 1080p 60fps display with authentic DualSense wireless controller ergonomics, adaptive triggers, and immersive haptic feedback. Designed for untethered handheld gaming anywhere in your home or on remote Wi-Fi, it liberates your PS5 from the living room television.
🔬 Hands-On Testing: 8-Inch 1080p Screen, DualSense Haptics & Wi-Fi Latency
- ✓Authentic DualSense Ergonomics: Features full-sized DualSense grips with real haptic feedback rumble and adaptive dynamic triggers that pull with authentic resistance in shooters.
- ✓Generous 8-Inch 1080p 60fps Display: The bright Full HD screen is significantly larger than a standard smartphone or Nintendo Switch, making fine text and in-game UI easy to read.
- ✓Zero Television Conflict: Play your entire library of installed PS5 and PS4 games while someone else watches movies, sports, or shows on the main living room TV.
- ✓Instant One-Touch Wakeup: Tapping the power button sends a network wakeup signal directly to your PS5 console, launching into your saved game in under twenty seconds.
- ✓Reliable 4 to 5 Hour Battery: Powers through long evening gaming sessions with a built-in battery that outlasts standard DualSense controllers.
⚖️ Curator's Honest Pros & Considerations
- ✓What We Love: Identical DualSense ergonomics and haptics, gorgeous 8-inch display, seamless PS5 wakeup, and zero TV conflicts.
- ✓Things to Keep in Mind: Requires an existing PlayStation 5 console to stream games from (it is not a standalone console like the Steam Deck).
