Why The Rabbit r1 Is The Most Intriguing Retro-Futuristic AI Companion
In a sea of identical glass smartphone slabs, the Rabbit r1 feels like a delightful artifact pulled straight out of an 80s anime or industrial design dream studio. Created in partnership with Teenage Engineering and bathed in vibrant luminous orange, it sports an analog scroll wheel, a rotating 360-degree motorized eye camera, and a clicky push-to-talk button.
Powered by Rabbit OS and backed by an included one-year subscription to Perplexity Pro, it functions as a dedicated voice-first research companion and action assistant. Hold the side button, ask a complex question, and it synthesizes web research into immediate, concise spoken answers without ads or algorithmic rabbit holes.
The Rabbit r1 is a pocket-sized standalone AI companion designed by Teenage Engineering, featuring a 2.88-inch touchscreen, rotating eye camera, analog scroll wheel, and Rabbit OS with Large Action Model (LAM) integration. Equipped with natural voice search powered by Perplexity, it offers a refreshing alternative to screen-heavy smartphones.
